The 3rd L lens in my line up - Canon 24-105 f/4L IS
April 8th, 2006
The decision has to be made - replace my last non-L canon lens! I just received my 3rd L lens - 24-105 F/4L in preparing my next wedding photography assignment, what is sold is my rarely used Canon 28-135 - it had been on the shelf for too long since I got my 17-40 F/4L.
The quality of the new 4L is inpressive,
- faster focus speed comparing to 28-135 especially in low light condition
- rock solid build quality-feel just like my trusty 17-40 F/4L
- color rendering is saturate both indoors and outdoors
- tends to do a little bit of front focus .
- better or usable sharpness in F4 comaring to 28-135
With the introduction of this new lens, this is what I have so far. Perfect line up for a guy like travel a lot..
17-40 F/4L: group photos, wedding, travel lens for scenary
24-105 F/4L: all around lens for portraits <- this will be on my 20D for most of the time.
70-200 F/2.8L: telescope lens for shooting birds, animals, and some portraits <-this will be on my hiking bag
Is this good for a wedding, it depends on what body do you have.. I consulted some guys on dpreview.com, they all agreed this line up works out great for 1D/5D body for a wedding, given my 20D 1.6 ratio, many people highly recommended the newer canon 17-55 F/2.8 or Tamron 18-50 F/2.8, now I might need to add one more lens..
