This is a game between No1 and No 22, but the game and results didn’t show that big difference as much as the ranking difference. Duke beats Maryland by merely 3 points (60-57). Since I equiped myself like a pro, I have not trouble sitting inside the photographer area in Duke Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Special thanks to the mono-pod, it is much easier to carry my trusty 70-200L2.8 lens with 10D+ED8 battery pack. But it is still very tiring after one hours of photoshooting, and shooting basketball is very hard to capture the “moment”. Now I understand how those AP photographers get paid so well (because their photos are really different!)
but anyway, here is my first attempt to pretending to be a serious basketball photographer, enjoy.

People say eyes are the windows to one’s mind, but in this movie, you can still see the mind of Ray Charles without reading his eyes. (I can not believe I have spent 2 1/2 hours on the movie, time flies just faster than it does when I saw Lord of Rings). If I were in the theater, I’d give this movie a standing ovation.
Jamie’s performance in the movie is stunning in playing this legendary artist(now I have to decide which is the best movie /actor of the year, this or Million Dollar Baby/Clint Eastwood). Reading some trivia of these movie, Jamie used the medicine in his eyes so that he was really a blind man in the movie; he worked with the real “Ray” for years so that he can walk/smile/sing like him in the movie; he even learned how to play Piano in this movie! I can barely tell any differences from the real Ray when I watched the ending documentary trailer (photos etc). “Ray” is one fine example of good biography movie, and it also puts Jamie in the same category of all around actors, like Tom Hanks.
About the movie itself, it is a very stylish movie, it uses the flashback of Ray’s childhood to connect and redirect the story development. The memory of the childhood, the words of Mom and his brother helps Ray to fight two major issues in life: Adultery and Drug. Those flashbacks really connected very well the real Ray and child Ray.
This is a very insprising film and it touches just almost everybody’s soul, it tells what you get do when you face setbacks and adversities in your life. And you need a good coach (like Ray’s mom or his wife), who may sounds cruel, but there words or actions can be truely the turning point for you. This movie is like those classical movies like Forest Gump, and Saving private ryan, it will stick in your mind for a long time.

Actually boxing is only very small part of the movie, so don’t be fooled thinking this is just one of those “ehhh” boxing movies.
When I knew this movie is about boxing, I told myself that I prob will not spend more than 15 mins on this movie. It turned out this is a typical error due to stereotype. Within hours that I finished the movie, I was keeping thinking about movie. I was so deeply touched by the sotry, by the emotions, and by the interactions between the characters. (gee.. this is deep)
This is a sad movie, but it is thought provoking. Soon after you saw the acting from from Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank, in the background of a dark and old gym, you can expect the tone of the movie. Eastwood plays Frankie, an old box trainer always tends to overprotect his player after he faulted himself for the injury leading to Freeman’s blindness. Maggie is a waitress who is very determined to realize her dream - to be a million dollar box star. Maggie tried almost all she can to impress Frankie so that he can be her boss, she tried and failed, then tried again. Finally the door is opened after even I am moved by Maggie’s strong will. Yeah, then you see bloody fight scenes intermittenly, but most of the time, you are envolved in the building of the relationship among three characters, and your heart were truly enjoying when you saw the victory. That sounds a very typical holywood style … but you are wrong… story quickly turned into its sad part when you thought that million dollar is almost at hand. I guess I have to stop now so that you still have incentive to watch this move.
Yeah… the scripts are flawless, the story well connected, the scene are seamless crafted, but what was amazing was the performance of three characters. These people are just so real and natural. You truly enjoy when they laughed and fell the pain when they were hurt. I normally faw asleep when I watch drama, this is one of the few dramas that it get you involved in the story as if you are part of it. I truly hope this movie can get Oscars, this is better than Aviator.
Go to see the movie while it is still in the theater or get the DVD when it is out. 10 out of 10.

Snow came unexpectedly today - when Sherwood called me to tell me that it was snowing, I thought he was joking, but it was true! It started snowing around 11am and didn’t stop til 2pm. Having had several spin-outs during winter season, I’ve learned my lessons and did not want to take any risk so I came home early from work. Already, when I left, there were tons of cars abandoned on the campus because they couldn’t go up the hill. I prayed for God to look over me on my way home and keep me safe and He did - I got home an hour later and was glad I won’t be out there when the road freezes. Fortunately, my class isn’t until 10:30am tomorrow so hopefully, all the snow would’ve melted by then.

I have been searching a good option to integrate a cool photo engine/theme to my site, finally I nailed down to coppermine as the engine, then I need to find a good theme.
January 19th, 2005
WP 1.5 has much better administration user interface which allows people easily change themes and looknfeel. This new theme is created by Manji, and there is another cool theme that I am also considering… http://binarybonsai.com/kubrick/
BTW, comment system is now up and running, feel free to drop some lines!
